The GE/Fanuc/VMIC VMIVME2540 is a specialized module in the VMIC/GE Fanuc board family designed for a variety of industrial applications, including CPU management and input/output communications. Specifically, the VMIVME2540 can be used as a smart counter/controller to count up to 4 Giga events. It features 24 discrete output channels that can be programmed using the on-board jumper module option to support various voltage levels. These output channels provide 12-bit resolution and can supply/absorb up to 10 mA at +/- 10 volts. In addition, the module includes analog inputs designed for offline testing that can be disconnected from external circuitry. It incorporates a VMEbus slave interface providing 4, 8, 16 or 24 channels of digital signal measurement and signal generation options, implemented by an integrated system timing controller and associated interface logic.

The user interface of the Intelligent Counter/Controlleris implemented by a 15 MHz 68HC000 CPU supported by64 Kbyte of EPROM firmware, 128 Kbyte ofzero-wait-state static RAM, and highly-integrated controland interrupt logic. The VMEbus host programs the ICC byqueueing function control blocks in local memory andissuing commands. The CPU responds to the commands byinterpreting the function control blocks, configuring thesystem timing controllers, and then acknowledging the hostcommand. Once configured, the CPU maintains datastructures of measurement data in local memory andinterrupts the VMEbus host when a measurement or controlprocess is complete.
