woodward 8237-1597 PROTECH-GII Speed Detection System. The ProTech-GII is a configurable overspeed detection system designed to safely shut down steam, gas, and hydraulic turbines of all sizes upon sensing an overspeed or over-acceleration event. The availability of two dual redundant trip relay outputs in a 3-option, 2-vote architecture, or three independent, non-voting trip relay outputs with separate alarm relays, 4-20 mA speed readout, and Modbus® communications make this overspeed device a possible and easy to integrate into any turbine safety system. This ProTech GII model is a bulkhead mounted, HV/HV power input, polling relay/polling input safety device for steam turbine overspeed protection.
Acceleration Detection
The ProTech-GII can also be configured to protect the turbine from high acceleration events. The derivative of the velocity signal is used to detect turbine acceleration and issue the associated trip command.
Main Control Board Detection
Each module's speed sensor inputs use special MPU open wire detection circuitry to verify that the MPU is properly connected prior to turbine operation, and special stall detection logic to verify MPU function during turbine operation.
Automated Overspeed Test Procedures
Alternatively, the ProTech-GII can be configured to perform an overspeed test on each module at regular intervals and then record and report the results. With this test routine, each module completes its test sequence by using an internal frequency generator to simulate an overspeed condition.
Resistance to Sulphur Contamination
The ProTech-GII utilises a special conformal coating material that provides excellent long term protection against H2S and SO2 gases and is rated in accordance with International Standard IEC 721-3-3 1994 - Environmental Class 3C2.
