The Triconex 3008 is a Main Processor (MP) used in Tricon systems that are version 9.6 or later. The MP is responsible for communicating with the I/O subsystem and executing the user-written control program. The Triconex 3008 MP has a Motorola MPC860 processor, 32-bit, 50 MHz, 16 MB DRAM (without backup battery), 32 KB SRAM (with backup battery), and 6 MB flash PROM. The TriClock of the Triconex 3008 is used for time and date and has a typical drift of 2 seconds per day and a maximum drift of 2.16 seconds per day. The main processors belonging to Invensys triconex are 3008, 3008N, 3006, 3007, 3009, 3009N and other models

The Triconex 3008 MP is a component that must be installed in the Main Chassis of every Tricon system. Three MPs are required for each system. The Triconex 3008 MP is classified as a Triconex/Invensys/cartridge product.

The Triconex 3008 MP is compatible with Tricon systems version 9.6 or later.  It is important to note that the Tricon communication module (TCM) is only compatible with Tricon systems version 10.0 or later. 

Triconex 3008 is an enhanced main processor module that is used in safety instrumented systems for critical tasks requiring SIL 1, 2, or 3. It has 16 megabytes DRAM and is based on industry-leading Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) technology. The Triconex 3008 module is designed to fit smaller applications and is certified up to SIL 3. 

To program and configure the Triconex system, you will need Triconex TriStation 1131 software. This software is used for system configuration, programming, and documentation. You can also use other Triconex software such as Report Generator, Enhanced Diagnostic Monitor, Sequence of Events (SOE), and TriLogger for various purposes such as custom reports, status and health information of the controller, SOE retrieval display and analysis, and high-speed event recording and display.
