Strip tension, is one of the key parameters for achieving high precision strip thickness control in the cold rolling process. To achieve the highest possible accuracy, a strip tension meter is the best and most reliable tool. Accurate strip tension measurement is key to stabilising the strip tension within the desired range during acceleration and deceleration.
The Millmate Strip Tension Measurement System consists of a Millmate 400 controller, a junction box, and two indenters of the appropriate range. The indenter can be used to measure force in two different directions, one vertical and the other horizontal, depending on the application.

ABB's strip tension measurement system indenter is available in four versions, three for vertical force measurement and one for horizontal force measurement.
Available in a variety of sizes, including a wide range of ranges, the indenter provides an output signal proportional to the measured force FR. ABB's indenters
feature rugged construction and excellent protection ratings, including an internal Pressductor force sensor for use in harsh rolling environments. The press head
has a robust construction and an excellent level of protection, with an internal Pressductor force sensor for use in harsh rolling environments and protection against dust,
liquids, vapours and corrosive substances. Based on the magnetostatic principle, the design of the press head enables the production of measurement signals without the
need for compressive deformation of the sensor body. From a mechanical point of view, the pillow indenter is effectively a solid block of stainless steel with a high coefficient
of elasticity, and its strength and stiffness are critical for applications where overload protection and sensitivity to vibration are important. Some indenters are capable of
withstanding overloads of up to 30 times the rated tension.
Vertical Measuring Pillow Indenter

The vertical pillow indenter is ideal for rolling mills and treatment lines (annealing, pickling, galvanising lines, etc.). The press head is made from a single piece of
stainless steel, has a high coefficient of elasticity and is extremely robust. It is able to be mounted under the bearing housing to measure the vertical component force,
which can be measured in both directions.
The indenter is available in three versions:
- PFCL 201C, fitted with Cannon connectors for connecting cables, very suitable for handling lines.
- PFCL 201CD, fitted with 20 metres of PTFE fixed connection cable, a solution for handling line applications.
- PFCL 201CE, for mill environments, fitted with a fixed connection cable with sheath, ideal for mill applications.

a solid tension gauge made from a single piece of stainless steel.
This press head is a solid tensiometer made from a single piece of stainless steel with a high coefficient of elasticity similar to that of other Pressductor pillow block press heads and is extremely rugged.
It can be mounted under the bearing housing to measure the vertical component force and can be used in both directions.The PFCL241-SE is suitable for use in rolling mill environments and is supplied
with a sheathed, fixed connection cable.
