AMAT 0100-20100 PCB ASSY ANALOG INPUTOUTPUT.AMAT 0100-20100 Byte sorting: Large byte/small byte sorting problems exist due to the different traditions of major microprocessor manufacturers MOTOROLA and Intel. VMEbus boards are designed around MOTOROLA's 680X0 processors and compatibility that store multiple byte values in memory, with the most significant byte at the lowest byte address. This byte sorting scheme is called "Big Endian" sorting. On the other hand, Intel's 80X86 microprocessor stores multiple byte values in memory, where the least significant byte is at the lowest byte address, hence the name "little Endian" sort. The PCI to VMEbus interface for the AMAT 0100-20100 uses an Intel-based or equivalent bridging chip that uses Little Endian byte ordering.
