Hydro machinery, such as units that operate in pumpstorage applications, exhibit distinctly different vibration characteristics depending upon whether the unit is operating as a motorpump or a turbine-generator. Other units may operate as only turbine-generators, but varying flow, head,and load conditions can likewise yield distinctly different vibration characteristics.
To address such machinery, a monitoring system capable of recognizing these distinct operating states is necessary, providing unique alarm setpoints for each haracteristic operating mode.
The 3500/46M Hydro Monitor Module is specifically designed to address the unique vibration measurement needs of hydro machinery.
Recently enhanced, it now provides users with from one to eight configurable machine states for which independent alarm setpoints and time delays can be programmed, resulting in a fully parametric monitoring strategy that is tailored to the individual operating modes of your hydro assets. This allows the 3500/46M to be more successfully applied to pump-storage applications in addition to conventional generation-only applications.
The Bently Nevada 3500/46M Hydro Monitor is a four-channel instrument that accepts input from proximity, seismic, and air gap sensors. It is specifically designed to protect and monitor hydro turbine generators. The monitor conditions the input signals and compares them with user-programmable alarms. The Hydro Radial Vibration channels combine the shaft gap movement with the NX amplitude to provide a measurement to alarm on shear-pin failure.
To use the Bently Nevada 3500/46M Hydro Monitor, you need to connect the proximity, seismic, and air gap sensors to the four channels of the monitor. The signals are then conditioned by the monitor to produce vibration and position measurements. The conditioned signals are compared with user-programmable alarms to identify any issues with the hydro turbine generators.
When setting up the monitor, you can program each channel using the 3500 Rack Configuration Software to protect machinery and monitor conditions for Hydro Radial Vibration (RV), Hydro Air Gap, Hydro Velocity, Hydro Acceleration, Hydro Thrust, Hydro Stator End Winding (SEW) Vibration, and Dynamic Pressure. There are also multimode settings available for all available channel types.
You can identify machinery modes, such as Rough Load Zone, by using the discreet input contacts on the Bently Nevada 3500/46M Hydro Monitor. These contacts can also automate data acquisition and alarms. External terminations are available for the monitor, allowing you to connect it to other devices.
