Phase module in the INU unit of the ACS6000 drive cabinet It is the core power component of the inverter unit (INU) of the ABB medium-voltage frequency converter (ACS6000) and is responsible for converting the DC Link voltage into controlled three-phase alternating current (AC) to drive high-voltage motors.Parameters: phase current is generally required to be greater than or equal to 10A, less than or equal to 63A; phase voltage is greater than or equal to 380V, less than or equal to 690V; phase resistance is greater than or equal to 10Ω, less than or equal to 50Ω; phase capacitance is greater than or equal to 100nF, less than or equal to 1000nF.
1.Core functions of the phase module:
Power conversion:
Through high-frequency IGCT switching (based on PWM technology), DC power is converted into three-phase AC power with adjustable frequency and voltage, precisely controlling the speed and torque of the motor.
Phase Adjustment:
Ensure the phase balance of the three-phase output voltage (120° interval), avoiding vibration, heat generation or efficiency degradation of the motor due to phase deviation.
Dynamic Response:
Supports rapid adjustment of output waveforms to adapt to sudden load changes (e.g., mill shock loads, pump starts and stops).
2. Components
IGCT element: It is the core element of the phase module, responsible for realising high voltage and high current switching control, which determines the performance and capacity of the phase module.
Diode: It is used to realise the unidirectional conductivity of the circuit and to provide a continuation path for the inductive loads in the circuit when the IGCT is switched off, so as to prevent over-voltage phenomenon.
Clamp capacitors: play a role in stabilising the voltage and limiting the rate of change of the voltage to ensure that the voltage waveform output from the phase module is more stable, reducing the impact of sudden voltage changes on the system.
Heat dissipation system: water-cooled or air-cooled heat dissipation design ensures that the IGCT works within a safe temperature range (usually ≤85°C).

3.Principle of operation
Based on IGCT technology: Integrated Gate Current Converter Thyristor (IGCT) technology is usually used. IGCT has high voltage and high current switching capability, and can quickly and accurately control the current flow and phase in the circuit. The phase module regulates the phase and amplitude of the output AC voltage by controlling the triggering moment and conduction time of the IGCT to meet the phase and voltage requirements of different loads.
Work with other components: It works closely with other components in the INU unit, such as DC capacitor, gate power supply unit, clamping circuit and so on. The DC capacitor provides a stable DC voltage source for the phase module, the gate power supply unit provides the required driving energy for the IGCT, and the clamp circuit is used to limit the rate of change of the current in the circuit and protect the phase module and other circuit components from excessive voltage and current shocks.
